John Mazzocco, D.D.S
grew up in Elmhurst, Illinois, and developed an interest in dentistry through his own experiences as a dental patient. Congenitally missing seven permanent teeth, Dr. Mazzocco underwent his first corrective surgery during high school and ultimately required multiple procedures, including bone grafting, soft tissue grafting, and the placement of four dental implants, in addition to several years of orthodontic treatment. He was fortunate to have a dentist, periodontist, and orthodontist who worked closely together throughout his treatment. The relationships he developed with his dental care team played an important role in inspiring him to pursue a career in dentistry.
Dr. Mazzocco attended the University of Notre Dame, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Science Pre-Professional Studies in 2018. He then attended the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. Following dental school, he continued his training at the University of Michigan, completing the Advanced Training Program in Periodontics along with a Master of Science in Dentistry degree.
Having personally experienced complex dental treatment, Dr. Mazzocco understands how overwhelming it can be for patients to navigate a treatment plan and undergo multiple surgical procedures. His goal is to make each step of treatment clear and understandable so that patients feel comfortable and confident throughout their care and recovery. He places particular emphasis on patient education, believing that understanding the reason behind a recommended treatment allows patients to make informed decisions and take an active role in maintaining their results.
Dr. Mazzocco enjoys all aspects of periodontics, including periodontal therapy, dental implant placement, implant site development, bone grafting, and soft tissue grafting. He especially enjoys the combination of surgical care, working with his hands, and developing long-term relationships with patients who are committed to their oral health.
Dr. Mazzocco is a member of the American Academy of Periodontology, American Dental Association, Illinois State Dental Society, and Fox River Valley Dental Society.
Outside of the office, Dr. Mazzocco enjoys woodcarving, playing guitar, hiking, and spending time with his family. After completing his training in Ann Arbor, he was excited to return to Elmhurst, where he is happy to have his parents and four siblings living nearby.
