Implant Provisionalization: Creating a Seamless Transition from Tooth to Implant

Implant dentistry has come a long way from its inception. Traditionally, implant success was defined as a fixture integrated into the bone, in function, with biological stability. Today, it is clear that the standards have risen. Many patients are seeking higher level, long lasting esthetic results. Our patients often think of the esthetics as just a pretty tooth, but a tooth is more than just the restoration. There is an intimate role that the soft tissue plays in framing and enhancing the overall esthetic appearance of the restoration. So why not aim to achieve both? This lecture aims to explore the use of implant provisionalization, both immediate and delayed, in order to preserve and/or develop soft tissue “pink” esthetics. We will also explore how provisionalization can enhance long term biological success and patient satisfaction.
